Days before release, Shahid Kapoor's new film Jersey has been postponed yet again, this time by a week. Jersey was to open on April 14 but has been bumped to April 22 to avoid going head to head at the box office with KGF: Chapter 2, starring Yash. "As a team, we have put our blood sweat and tears into Jersey and would like our beloved film to reach all of you in the widest possible way. Jersey will now release on 22nd April," producer Aman Gill said in a statement, reports news agency PTI.
KGF: Chapter 2, the sequel to 2018 blockbuster KGF: Chapter 1, will have no competition in ticket sales. Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha was also meant to release on the same date but has been shifted to August because of delays in post-production. KGF: Chapter 2 also co-stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj and Srinidhi Shetty.
Jersey, meanwhile, has been postponed thrice already because of the pandemic. It was meant to release in August 2020 and was pushed first to November 2021, then to December 2021 and then again to April 14, 2022. The delay to next week is the fourth time the film has been rescheduled.
Jersey, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is the Hindi remake of his 2019 Telugu film starring Nani. Shahid Kapoor stars as an ageing cricketer looking for a comeback at 36 for the sake of his son. Mrunal Thakur co-stars as his wife and the cast also includes Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur as his coach.
