Noted Malayalam filmmaker Shaji Karun said he felt proud that his film Kutty Srank bagged fiveNational awards including Best feature film but the directorrues that film's leading star Mammooty missed the honour,which went to Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
However, Karun lamented that veteran actor Mammooty hadnot bagged best actor award for Pazhassi Raja. "Lot of hisinputs went into making of the film. He deserved recognition,"he said.
The director said the film had a difficult narrativestyle. "However, the language of cinema is more important andI am glad the jury had recognised the attempt," he said.
Kutty Srank (Boat Captain) is about a mariner whooperates a cargo vessel between the sea port of Kodungalloornear Kochi, once roaring port towns in Kerala. The story istold from the perspectives of three different women after thedeath of the protagonist, who each experience a differentKutty Srank.
The film won the National award for Audiography alongwith Kaminey and 3 Idiots, shared music direction awardwith Amit Trivedi (Dev D) and special jury award withKaminey and Kutty Srank.
Ravi Jadhav, director of Marathi movie Natrang whichbagged the best film in Marathi said, "I am very happy that mythree-year efforts have been recognised. It is a great momentin my life and celebration of Marathi cinema."
