Pop star Shakira is all set toreceive the Artist of the Year award from the HarvardFoundation.
The 34-year-old Columbian singer will receive theaccolade for her musical contributions and her charitablework, helping children in impoverished areas such as Haiti,reported Contactmusic.
"The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundationare honoured to present multi-platinum artist Shakira with the2011 Artist of the Year award.
"Her contributions to music and distinguished historyof creativity have been applauded by people throughout theworld, and she is greatly admired worldwide for herhumanitarian efforts through her Barefoot Foundation," saidthe foundation's director S Allen Counter.
The 'Hips Don't Lie' hitmaker started the BarefootFoundation when she was just 18 and has opened six schoolsthrough it. The prime goal of the charity is to ensure thatevery child has the basic right to quality education.
Shakira has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadorsince 2003.
Hollywood biggies like Sharon Stone, Will Smith, MattDamon and Salma Hayek were some of the previous recipients ofthe award.
