Pop star Shakira turned downrapper Pitbull's offer to join him on his new hit Give MeEverything citing personal reasons.
The Latino rapper said that the Hips Don't Liehitmaker was his first choice as a partner on the dancefloorfavourite, Contactmusic reported.
"I tried to get Shakira on the record but, due to somepersonal things she was going through, she couldn't jump onthe record," he said.
Pitbull then turned to model and singer Nayer instead.
The eight-month recording process was completed whenNe-Yo joined the duo to complete the track, which endedAdele's mammoth run at the top of the US pop charts last week.
Pitbull, 30, has earlier featured on Shakira's songRabiosa from her 2010 album Sale el Sol.
It is not known what personal things preventedShakira, 34, from joining Pitbull in the studio, but theColombian singer recently split from her longtime boyfriendAntonio de la Rua and is now dating soccer star Gerard Pique.
