Colombian superstar Shakira has been nominated for a prestigious award in Spain in recognition ofher charity work.
The 35-year-old Hips Don't Lie hitmaker, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, is shortlisted for the Prince of AsturiasConcord honour, according to reports.
The award celebrates individuals "whose work has significantly contributed to fostering peace, the defence ofhuman rights, freedom, solidarity, the safeguarding of heritage, or, in general, the progress of humanity".
The singer established her educational organisation, the Barefoot Foundation, when she was 18 and last year used fundsraised through the charity to build schools in her native Colombia and Haiti.
Previous recipients of the Concord accolade include world renowned scientist Stephen Hawking and Harry Potter author JKRowling.
