Shammiji was looking forward to the release of 'Rockstar': Ghai
Mumbai: Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who worked with legendary actor Shammi Kapoor on the 1982-hit film Vidhaata, says the actor was a representative of the youth and was looking forward to his upcoming film Rockstar with grand-nephew Ranbir Kapoor.

"I was to release a documentary with him at my institute. But I did not expect that he will leave us like this. More than the industry's loss, this is my personal loss. I was very close to him," Ghai told reporters outside the actor's residence in Malabar Hill in south Mumbai here.

Directed by Ghai, Vidhaata starred Sanjay Dutt, Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Amrish Puri, Madan Puri and Sarika. It was the highest grossing movie of 1982.

"Even at the age of 79, he was a representative of the youth. His spirit was so young and youthful. He was an inspiration to the new generation," said Ghai.

Rockstar, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and American model Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles, is being helmed by Imtiaz Ali and is set to release on November 11.

"He even told me about shooting with his grand-nephew Ranbir for his upcoming film Rockstar. He had shot sometime back. He was very excited and was looking forward tothe movie," added Ghai.
