Mumbai:
Shah Rukh Khan, who is in the midst of a controversy after his comment on 'intolerance' in India, has zoomed past Prime Minister Narendra Modi's number of followers on Twitter and scored a sum of 16 million. He is now the second most followed Indian on the microblogging platform.
Shah Rukh, one of Hindi cinema's most popular stars, is trailing only behind Amitabh Bachchan who has a whopping 17.6 million followers. PM Modi now takes the third spot with 15.8 million followers.
SRK joined Twitter with moniker '@iamsrk' on January 3, 2010, and since then has known to be one of the most active users on the platform, regularly sharing family photographs, favourite film memories, heartfelt poetry and philosophical quotes. The superstar is also known to engage with his fans across the globe with interactive question-answer sessions. He even shares life advice on Twitter.
The tech-savvy actor also joined Periscope on his 50th birthday to involve his fans (in real-time) across the world as part of his birthday celebrations in Mumbai on November 2.
On his special day, #HappyBirthdayKingKhan emerged as the top trend of the day on Twitter as it became a platform for his fans to celebrate the occasion with tweets, photographs and videos of their onscreen idol, with which they showcased their love and conveyed birthday wishes to the superstar.
Leading Bollywood celebrities including Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, Farah Khan, Kajol and Preity Zinta wished him good health and happiness on his birthday.
After entertaining his fans with a mix of action movies, romantic entertainers and comedy roles in his over two-decade long career in movies, SRK has cemented his space in Hindi cinema as well as in the hearts of his fans with his charm, wit and spontaneity.
Recently, following his comment: "Religious intolerance is the worst thing and will take India to the dark ages," he was called a 'Pakistani agent' and compared to 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed by BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Yogi Adityanath and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi.
