New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut's Simran, which released in theatres on September 15, has managed to collect Rs 13.31 crore at the box office so far, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. "#Simran Fri 2.77 cr, Sat 3.76 cr, Sun 4.12 cr, Mon 1.41 cr, Tue 1.25 cr. Total: 13.31 cr. India biz," Mr Adarsh tweeted. The Hansal Mehta-directed film received a lukewarm response on its opening day and managed to earn Rs 2.77 crore. Simran showed 'good growth' on Saturday but it couldn't collect much on Sunday due to India-Australia cricket match, according to Mr Adarsh. The film scored a total of Rs 7.88 crore over the weekend (Saturday - 3.76 crore and Sunday - 4.12 crore).
Simran is loosely based on the life of Sandeep Kaur, an NRI in the United States, who has been convicted of four bank robberies. In the film, Kangana portrays the role of Praful Patel, a Gujarati woman who is a divorcee residing in New York. Simran also stars Soham Shah, Esha Tewari Pande, Manu Narayan, Aneesha Joshi and Rupinder Nagra in key roles.
On Tuesday, director Hansal Mehta thanked the audience for the 'love and criticism' on Twitter. "Thankful for both the love and criticism coming our way. Simran is an unconventional film about an unusual character. I'm very proud of it," he tweeted.
