New Delhi:
Actress Sonam Kapoor who played mysterious beauty Sakina in her debut film Saawariya, says she would love to step into the shoes of Madhubala by essaying the role of Anarkali in a remake of K Asif's Mughal-e-Azam.
The Hindi cinema is celebrating the 50 years of the classic whose grandeur remains unmatched even today.
Sonam says the 1960 film has always been her favourite movie and she can't see anyone else playing Anarkali, the beautiful but defiant dancegirl who falls in love with prince Salim, played by Dilip Kumar.
"Mughal-e-Azam is my favourite film and I would love to play Anarkali. I love the film," the actress told reporters.
When asked to pick her favourite to play Salim's role, Sonam decided to go for Abhishek Bachchan, her co-star from Delhi 6.
"I think Abhishek will be great as Salim and Big B will be perfect for the role of Akbar," Sonam said.
The 25-year-old actress plays the role of a socialite in 'Aisha', which is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel 'Emma'. The film, produced by Rhea Kapoor and directed by Rajshree Ojha, releases this Friday.
And the actress, whose favourite pass time is reading, says she would love to play Elinor Dashwood, another heroine from Austen's novel Sense And Sensibility. The book has already been made into a Hollywood film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.
