Mumbai:
Actress Sonam Kapoor said that she can relate to her role in her upcoming film Neerja.
Directed by Ram Madhvani, the film revolves around Pan America flight attendant Neerja Bhanot. Neerja became the youngest and first woman recipient of the prestigious Ashok Chakra Award, posthumously.
"It was not emotionally draining. It is important that this story is told. It is about this girl, the youngest civilian who got Ashoka Chakra. She was a normal girl. She did a bit of modelling. She had the courage to save the world," Sonam told PTI.
"I hope I have done justice to the film. I was stressed throughout, hoping that I have done the best job possible. I feel the reason why this film was made is to recognise that it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from. You have to be ordinary to do extra ordinary things and everybody has that in them. You need to have the courage to do things," added Sonam.
The 30-year-old actress revealed that there are several similarities between Neerja and her.
"I can relate to Neerja because of my family values, relationships, sensitivity and strong sense of ethics. I think, young people need to see these values and understand the sense of right and wrong. They should have the courage to do the right things. This ordinary girl did an extraordinary thing," said Sonam.(Also Read: Neerja's Story Needs to be Told, Says Sonam Kapoor)
Sonam was recently seen in Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, co-starring Salman Khan.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has given me a wider reach as it has gone into the heartland of India and people are loving the film. My next film (Neerja) is not about me, my director or the producer but about Neerja," added Sonam.
