Sophie Choudry wants to revive pop music in India
She admits music videos worked in India in 1990s.
Mumbai: Actress-singer Sophie Choudry, who is garnering a positive response for her latest remixed number Hungama ho gaya, laments how Bollywood has taken over the trend of pop music videos.

"Music videos are more popular in the west because they don't have Bollywood. Bollywood has overtaken everything. So much money is invested in these films. In the west, pop stars are bigger than movie stars," Sophie told IANS.

She admits music videos worked in India in 1990s.

"I wish we could get those days back. Don't you miss the music of Euphoria? I want to get the pop music back in India. It is almost dead," she added.

Sophie has recently launched her new music album, in which she has remixed the popular song Hungama ho gaya, originally sung by Asha Bhosle in 1975. The video has got a positive response and Sophie can't be happier.

"The response has been amazing without any promotions. The video was up on YouTube and people just loved it and gave it a positive response," she said.

Sophie started off as a pop singer in 2000 with her all-girl band Sansara and later became a video jockey while continuing with her singing, besides small acting assignments. The singer, who has done few films in Bollywood, says she is mostly occupied with live shows. And that's the reason why she hasn't done too many movies.

"I have been right here busy with my live shows and busy with traveling. I didn't take too many films, so people thought I have vanished. I was here and very much interested in acting and would love to make more videos," the 31-year-old said.

The actress is also happy for Priyanka Chopra, who has been recognized globally for her debut single In my city.

"Priyanka is doing really great. She has been recognized globally. In today's date, everybody wants to be in her shoes. She has got an incredible opportunity and I would wish her all the good luck," she said.
