Celebrated filmmaker SS Rajamouli has been on a whirlwind tour of the world, thanks to his 2022 film RRR. The film – starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles – won top honours at various prestigious awards including the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Now, after several months of foreign travel, the filmmaker spent the last week of June exploring some of the magnificent temples in Tamil Nadu. In a video shared by the director, he is seen exploring several temples in the state such as the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur, Rameshwaram, and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, among others. He is also seen boating in Thoothukudi and indulging in local snacks in Madurai. The director ends the video with a beautiful image of his family.
Sharing the video, SS Rajamouli said, “Wanted to do a road trip in central Tamil Nadu for a long time. Thanks to my daughter who wanted to visit temples, we embarked upon it. Had been to Srirangam, Darasuram, Brihadeeswarar Koil [temple], Rameshwaram, Kanadukathan, Thoothukudi and Madurai in the last week of June. Could only touch the tip of the iceberg in the given few days. Exquisite architecture, amazing engineering and deep spiritual thought of Pandyas, Chozhas. Nayakkars and many other rulers was truly mesmerising.”
Explaining how the trip came as a welcome change, the director added, “Whether the fine dining in Mantrakoodam, Kumbakonam or a Kaka Hotel, Murugan Mess in Rameshwaram the food has been marvellous everywhere… I must have put on 2-3 kilos in a week. After three months of foreign travel and food, this homeland tour has been refreshing and uplifting.” The video ends with the text message, “Exploring central Tamil Nadu's rich heritage and divine tranquillity was soul-stirring.”
