Mumbai: For housewife cum tuition teacherSunmeet Kaur Sawhney, knowledge is the key to success and it was rightly proved in her case as she won Rs five crore on thepopular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Sawhney, a housewife that gave tuitions to young childrenin suburban Mumbai to add to the family income, is the firstwoman to become winner of Rs five crore on the sixth editionof Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
"My parents wanted me to study further but consideringmy grandfather's poor health and his wish to see me gettingmarried I couldn't study more. After marriage I got caught upin household chores and responsibilities," Sawhney, who hasstudied till class XII, told PTI here.
"It was when I underwent a surgery that I took adecision of taking tuitions at home. I truly believe thatknowledge is the key to success. It is not about how muchqualified one is, even by keeping yourself updated with thecurrent affairs one can become knowledgeable," she said.Though she could not get the opportunity to study more,Sawhney says she will ensure that her two daughters get thebest possible education.
"I want my daughters to study as much as they can. Myelder daughter is studying BMS and has keen interest towardsdirection. The younger one wants to become an IAS officer,"she said.
Sunmeet's husband Manmeet is a small time actor who hasappeared in about 150 commercials and Ram Gopal Varma'sJungle.
The 37-year-old woman had not dreamt that she would winRs five crore on KBC show."In every season of KBC, I used to call at least 4-5times but I never got the opportunity to be on the show. Thistime luck was on my side as only in one call I got selected,applied for written test, came on the hot seat and finally wonRs five crore," Sawhney said.
Sawhney has not decided yet how she would spend thewinning amount. "All I know is that I would definitely do somecharity work," she said.
The show featuring Sunmeet winning the game show will beaired on January 12.
