Sunny will be seen in the sequel to the 1990 film Ghayal.
Mumbai:
Action-star Sunny Deol, who is returning to the big screen with father Dharmendra and brother Bobby for Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, says he wanted to make a sequel to his 1990 film Ghayal soon after its release but did not find enough support at that time.
The 56-year-old says people in the industry back then were not veryfamiliar with the idea of sequels. Finally, Ghayal Returnsis in development and Sunny plans to begin shooting it by theend of this year.
"I liked the concept of Ghayal and wanted to make asecond part of the film but no director or producer was readyat that time. When we started making sequels, I thoughtGhayal should be the first film to have a second partbecause there was a scope to take the story forward," said Sunny.
There were reports that the production was stalled forsometime because Sunny was not happy with the script andthe film's previous director Ashwini Chaudhury, who was replacedby Rahul Rawail of Arjun Pandit fame.
"We are working on it right now, Earlier we had someproblem with the director and the script. But everything issorted now. Ghayal is such an iconic film and it's a bigchallenge to satisfy the audience again," said Sunny.
The 1990 hit saw Sunny and actress Meenakshi Seshadri inthe lead. Though Sunny will reprise the character of AjayMehra in the sequel, the hunt for the lead actress is still on.
"We will take a new face for the movie. We are holdingauditions but we haven't got the talent and beauty thatMeenakshi had," he said.
Meenakshi quit acting after Ghatak and shifted to NewYork after marrying an investment banker.
Sunny also took a break from playing the lead hero in films after Heroes. Buthe made a comeback with brother Bobby and father Dharmendrawith Yamla Pagla Deewana in 2011.
The National-award-winning actor said it is important tobe an all rounder these days in terms of playing characters in films unlike earlier.
"It's important to be an all rounder these days. The filmshave become a one man's show and one character plays all theshades of hero, comedian and villain. This is something newwhich we are also learning," he said.
Sunny is also excited about his 21-year-old son Karan, who worked as an assistant director to filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan.
"I am happy that my son also has an interest infilmmaking. He also assisted Sangeeth ji for Yamla PaglaDeewana 2. He even wrote the lyrics of the song I Will DanceOnly and also lent his voice for the rap section. He willmake his acting debut soon," said the actor.
