Sunny Deol is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film Gadar 2. Recently, during an interview with NDTV, the actor spoke about social media culture and how people are getting influenced by it. Talking about how people were trolling his co-star, Ameesha Patel, Sunny Deol said that social media has been picked up by “velle log [jobless people].” For context, Ameesha Patel was, time and again, trolled for her posts on Twitter. She was attacked for “defending” Gadar 2 co-star Simrat Kaur. People even accused Ameesha of using explicit pictures of Simrat Kaur as a "marketing strategy". Ameesha's Twitter history also included a tweet in which she had accused director-producer Anil Sharma of not paying the dues to many of the crew members. Ameesha was also criticised for revealing a major Gadar 2 spoiler. Sharing a screengrab from the film's teaser in June, Ameesha wrote on Instagram, "Hey all my lovely fans!! Too many of u have been concerned and worried about this shot from Gadar 2 thinking it is Sakina who is dead!!! well, it's not !! Who it is I can't say but it is NOT Sakina! So pls don't worry !! Love u all." Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel will be reprising their evergreen characters - Tara Singh and Sakina - in the film.
According to Sunny Deol, people who don't have a job have got a toy in the form of social media. Calling social media “fake”, Sunny Deol said that one should never get disturbed by anything that happens on such platforms. “Social media like I said velle bande hote hai na. Jinaday kol koi kaam nahi hunda, unha de kol ek khilona aa gaya hai. Uhnanu ki payi hoyi hai main ki likhya hai, unhane thodi face karna hai. Payi jao, maza aa reha hai. [People who are jobless have found a toy named social media to play with. They don't care what they are writing because they are not answerable to anyone. Neither should they worry about my posts or comments as people aren't answerable for what I am posting. Right now, they are simply enjoying it].”
“You know who you are, you know what you have done. Don't read the comments, just throw them away,” he added.
Talking about the “cancel culture” trend, Sunny Deol mentioned that people get influenced by the culture of foreign countries and try to impose it without understanding that “we are not like them, we are different.”
He said, “Hum bahar ke desho se influence hoke usko yaha par daal dete hai ya dalna chahte hai bina samjhe ki hum vaise log nhi hai. Hum alag hai. Humara culture itna deep-rooted hai. Chahe jo marzi karlo yeh hilega nahi aur hilna bhi nhi chahiye kyunki vedo se chalta aa raha hai. Aur jo itne time se chalta aa raha hai, usmai vibes hai kuch chize. [We get influenced by foreign countries and want to implement their culture here without understanding that we are not like them. We are different. Our culture is so deep-rooted. No matter what, nobody will be able to shake it because it has been going on since the Vedic period. It has vibes and lots of other things.]”
“Why is it that our country is so disorganised yet so organised? Why is it that there are so many temples found nowhere else but in India? Because our history is such,” the actor signed off.
Gadar 2 is a sequel to the 2001 cult classic Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. As revealed in the trailer, Gadar 2 is set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war.
Gadar 2 will hit the theatres on August 11. It will clash with Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi's OMG (Oh My God) 2 at the box office.
