Surviving in Bollywood for two decades big achievement: Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn, 43, started his career as a child actor in Pyari Behna (1985) and six years later entered the industry with a lead role in Phool Aur Kaante.
Mumbai: Actor Ajay Devgn, who has made a markin commercial as well as critically acclaimed movies, countshis survival in Bollywood, where competition has intensifiedover the years, for over two decades as his biggestachievement.

"I think we six to seven actors are surviving here since20 years and this is a good thing. It speaks about our placeand position in the industry and in the hearts of theaudience," Ajay Devgn told PTI in an interview.

"I think that is a great achievement. Which actor isup or down is a different thing. All of us are surviving since20 to 22 years and it is a fabulous achievement," said Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn, 43, started his career as a child actor in PyariBehna (1985) and six years later entered the industry with alead role in Phool Aur Kaante.

He then went on to star in films like Diljale, Zakhm,Company, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Yuva, Omkara,Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Raajneeti and Singham, amongothers.

Initially considered an intense actor, Ajay Devgn later wenton to deliver hit comedies like Golmaal series, BolBachchan and Son of Sardaar.

His first national film award for best actor came for hisrole in Mahesh Bhatt's Zakhm. He was awarded for a secondtime for his portrayal of Bhagat Singh in Rajkumar Santoshi'sbiopic on the great revolutionary.

Ajay Devgn has not only managed to survive in the industrybut has also thrived and cemented his place alongside hiscontemporaries like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan,Akshay Kumar, all of whom started their career around the sametime.

However, the verstaile actor did not have a smoothride and his career saw many ups and downs. He has had hisshare of not so successful films like Raju Chacha, Insan,Tango Charlie, London Dreams, Tezz and others. But hehas always managed to bounce back and deliver hits.

"I don't look at highlights of my career. I don't lookat it that way. I am happy to be in the industry for so longand will continue to be here," Ajay Devgn said.

Ajay Devgn is among a handful of actors who have become amember of the Rs 100-crore club of Bollywood. His membershipof the elite club comes courtsey films like Golmaal 3,Singham, Bol Bachchan and Son of Sardaar.

"It's scary (to be part of Rs 100-crore club) becausenow success of a film depends on it grossing Rs 100 crore. Soif a film makes Rs 99 crore it is not considered successful.Earlier we used to have terms like silver/golden jubilee (tomeasure a film's success) but now it has become Rs 100 crore."

"This thing will slowly be forgotten... the numberswill keep increasing as the markets are growing. I think ifyou have a good story, a solo release with an extended weekendthen it can do good business," he said.

The popular star has a host of interesting projectslined up for release going forward. These include Sajid Khan's remake version ofHimmatwala, Prakash Jha's Satyagraha (reportedly based onAnna Hazare movement), a masala entertainer with Prabhu Devaand Rohit Shetty's Singham 2.
