New York:
Mahinder Singh Dhoni was in New York to promote his biopic M S Dhoni: The Untold Story, which delves into the cricketing legend's hardest decisions and how he changed the tracks of his life.
In a press conference at Fox News Headquarters in New York, the 35-year-old limited overs captain told reporters that he thought the movie would release once he retires but it turned out to be a faster innings. "It was hard for me to narrate my story because I am person who believes in living in the present. The past or future does not matter to me, so it is very hard when I am asked to recount episodes from my childhood or from several years ago," M S Dhoni said.
It is not often you see India's greatest religions - cricket and Bollywood combine, but they come together in this movie. Dhoni's journey from a ticket collector to one of the world's most famous sport legend, but he says the movie aims to not glorify but inspire.
"Government job milni mushkil hai, chorni usse bhi mushkil hai," Dhoni said, adding that his life's philosophy is to keep it simple. "You see a ball, you hit a ball, the moment you get into yorkers and off spin it gets too complicated."
When asked why he didn't play himself in the movie, Dhoni said, "It's better to leave the acting to others. I will stick to cricket" and paid a huge compliment to Sushant Singh Rajput, who plays Dhoni in the movie, saying the actor trained so hard for six months. "He could be better than some cricketers," he said.
For a man whose every public move is well documented not much is known about his personal life, but this movie shares that, from his former girlfriend who died in a tragic accident to the relationship Dhoni shares with his parents.
M S Dhoni says that though he is very close to his parents, he "never speaks to them about cricket, never has and never will. We talk about everything else."
The film releases worldwide on September 30 and if even half of Dhoni's fans show up in theaters, its success is a sitter.
