In a recent interview with former actress and author Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita Sen spoke about the winning moment and how the first runner-up's reaction to the crowning moment taught her grace. Adding that the win came as a “big shock”, she said: “Because winning Miss Universe is making history for my country. One of the things that was ingrained while I left from here was, don't expect much, so that victory was a different victory all together. And you won't believe it Venezuela walked away and just Columbia I stood together. That memory of me winning it, and her hands going up in the air like that, as if she had won – that taught me tremendous grace. It showed me generosity of spirit, oh my God, and that someone like me needed the crown to know that grace. She didn't need it. She had it.”
