India's most popular andrespected playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has been chosen forthe special award instituted by the Kairali-Swaralaya-Yesudastrust.
Shreya Ghoshal, one of the best known female voices in thefilm industry, was selected for the Swaralaya-Kairali-Yesudasaward for the year 2011.
The awards were announced by jury chairman MA Baby andKairali TV executive director PR Ajayan at a press conferencehere today.
Renowned singer Mangeshkar was being presented with thehonour for her overall contribution a career spanning nearlyseven decades, rendering songs in 36 regional languagesbesides Hindi.
Ghoshal, a popular singer in Hindi, has also sung inregional languages including Malayalam, Bengali, Tamil,Kannada, Assamese, Marathi and Punjabi.
While Mangeshkar's award comprises a cash component of Rs 2lakh, memento and citation, the 'Swaralaya' award carries acash prize of Rs 1 lakh, memento and citation.
The awards will be presented to them at a function to beheld in September, Baby said.
