Tamil Nadu theatres threaten to boycott Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam

Tamil Nadu Theatre OwnersAssociation and Madurai-Ramanathapuram United FilmDistributors today threatened not to screen Tamil super starKamal Haasan's flick Vishwaroopam in Madurai andRamanathapuram districts, if it was broadcast on DTH platformon January 10, a day ahead of the film's theatrical release.
At a joint meeting here, the Association leaders askedthe actor, who is also the director of the film, to reconsiderthe decision to broadcast the film in DTH platform and cancelthe licence given to the relevant companies for airing it.
They claimed they would in the future boycott the filmsof all producers or actors who decide to give licence to DTHcompanies for airing films when they were released throughtheatres.
A decision had been taken by them not to runVishwaroopam in theatres in most parts of Tamil Nadu, theysaid.They also requested Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa tointervene and "protect" the interests of theatre owners andfilm distributors.
Unfazed by the opposition from a section oftheatre-owners against his decision to release the movie onDTH platform, Kamal Haasan had in Chennai last week said theeffort was an "evolutionary growth" and insisted it was the"way to go forward."
