Hyderabad:
A local court yesterday convicted Telugu film actor Navdeep for drunken and rash driving, and imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on him.
Navdeep's counsel T Sriranga Rao said that his client was convicted on charges under sections 279 (rash driving), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) of IPC, and sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
"We are filing an appeal against the conviction," advocate Rao said.
The actor and his friend were arrested in May 2010 on charges of drunken and rash driving after a constable suffered minor injuries while trying to stop them. Navdeep was driving the car.
The medical tests confirmed that the actor had consumed alcohol.
