Thackeray Saga On Celluloid Again

Mumbai: The much talked about rift in the Thackeray family, one of the prominent clans in Maharashtra politics, is all set for the silver screen again with a Marathi film which will release on June 10.

The story of 2014 Raj ka Ran has been written by Pune-based Sagar Pathak, a self confessed follower of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, whose family's political saga was the subject of another film Zenda.

Zenda, released early last year, was loosely based on the feud between Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

"One of my brothers is an office-bearer of MNS and another holds a post in Shiv Sena. I have seen the political rift in my own family and this inspired me to write a film story," Pathak, who is into construction business in Pune and Sangli, told PTI.

Pathak admitted that his film is related to the rift in the Thackeray family, but said the movie has a bigger canvas as the story covers the entire politics of the state.

"One of the political parties in the present ruling coalition in the state had broken away from the parent outfit over the issue of leadership. But, immediately both joined hands to come to power and are now ruling us for 15 years. If ruling coalition partners can do that what stops the Thackerays from coming together for the sake of the people. After all they are one family," he said.

Pathak said the film portrays how people are fed up with squabbling among the Thackerays. "Our film shows a positive end to the story," he said, without going into detail.
