Los Angeles: The Lord of the Rings prequel focuses on the journey of Bilbo - distant cousin to Frodo, a key character in the Rings films - and Martin Freeman, who plays him, says there are a number of very distinct differences between the pair.
He said: "He is intrinsically more correct than Frodo, more pompous. Frodo is more open, Bilbo has to be broken like a clam. Much of the comedy comes from his correctness in facing danger for the first time."
Martin, 41, admits he still can't believe he's such an integral part of such a large franchise.
The first instalment in the three-part series, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is in cinemas this December.
