The makers of the highly anticipated K-drama The Trunk dropped its first trailer, and it's shaping up to be a gripping blend of suspense, emotion and intrigue. Starring Gong Yoo (famous for Squid Game) and Seo Hyun Jin (best known for The Little Prince), the series is directed by Kim Kyu Tae and is based on the novel by Kim Ryeo Ryeong. At its core, The Trunk revolves around Noh In Ji (Seo Hyun Jin), a woman working at NM (New Marriage), a company that arranges "contract marriages." Every year, she must live with a new "husband" as part of her job, until her latest assignment pulls her into a web of secrets. Han Jeong Won (Gong Yoo) hires NM to save his failing marriage, but things take a darker turn when a mysterious trunk is discovered at the bottom of a lake, setting off a chain of events that reveals the company's hidden depths.
The trailer opens with a seemingly simple moment: Noh In Ji adjusting Han Jeong Won's bow tie. "I see your former wife recommended us to you," she says, hinting at a complicated history. As the couple begins their life together as a "contract couple," tensions rise and a deeper mystery emerges when the trunk is tied to a string of secrets about the NM organisation. The trailer teases a shocking interrogation scene where Han Jeong Won is asked, "Which wife?" leaving viewers to wonder what lies beneath the surface of his troubled past.
Amid the growing sense of unease, the relationship between Han Jeong Won and Noh In Ji becomes more complex. She cynically remarks that the purpose of their fake marriage might be to "hide their loneliness," while he, struggling with his own emotional turmoil, starts to grow closer to her. At one point, Han Jeong Won even hints that their fake marriage might not be so fake after all, telling Noh In Ji, "Who knows? We might be destined to be together."
The Trunk will premiere on November 29 on Netflix.
