Popstar Britney Spears has won the throwback game on Instagram. We say this because the singer has treated us to some glimpses of the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards in her latest post on Instagram. The pictures feature herself on the red carpet and seated with singer-actor Mick Jagger for an interview ahead of her performance. That's not all. She also gave us some behind-the-scenes trivia of her iconic performance at the award show and the part her then-boyfriend, actor Justin Timberlake played in it. Those who remember the I'm A Slave 4 U performance from two decades ago, would define Britney Spears as the epitome of confidence and panache on stage.
This, however, was far from the truth and it was Justin Timberlake who gave Britney Spears a pep talk to calm her down, she said in the caption.
In the caption, Britney Spears wrote, “Geez…This is me before my VMAs performance with Mick Jagger 20 years ago.” Referring to her little black dress, she said, “This is one of my favourite dresses I have ever worn and it is simple black lace.”
Britney Spears spoke about her performance on stage, which had her with a tiger in a cage and a Burmese python draped around her shoulders. She said, “I will tell you this; before I went on that night I was feeling kinda out of the body with nerves. I mean... I was in a cage with a live tiger. I will never forget the moment before I went into the cage.”
Acknowledging Justin Timberlake's support, Britney Spears added, “Justin saw I could hardly talk so he held my hand and gave me a 5-minute pep talk which obviously worked.”
Fans flocked to the comments section to praise the actress for her “legendary” performance. The casual mention of ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake and his encouragement also sent fans into a tizzy.
One user said, “No, she did not say that.” “Love it when Britney Spears talks randomly about Justin Timberlake,” said another fan.

She announced on Twitter that she was keeping away from social media platforms to enjoy her recent engagement to her long-time boyfriend Sam Asghari.
