New Delhi: After weeks of heavy-duty publicity, director Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do cruises into theatres with the Mehras, each madder than the other, on-board.
Starring Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Shefali Shah, the plot revolves around the 'dysfunctional' Mehra family. Anil Kapoor plays the patriarch Kamal Mehra, Shefali his disgruntled wife, Priyanka plays their daughter Ayesha and Ranveer Singh her brother Kabir. The problem Mr and Mrs Mehra face is that their son won't get married and daughter won't stay married. Director Zoya Akhtar puts them on board a cruise trip so they can solve all their problems. Kabir solves his with some help from Anushka Sharma's Farah Ali while Ayesha finds an anchor in 'old friend' Sunny Gill, played by Farhan.
Hollywood places its own 'dysfunctional' family at the box office with What We Did on Our Holiday which also hits screens today. Starring Gone Girl's Oscar-nominated star Rosamund Pike and David Tennant, who plays her husband, the plot revolves around a couple who travel with their children to a big family gathering. A comic chain of events ensues after the children end up spilling the beans on the fact that their parents are about to get divorced.
Also up for release is the romance fantasy The Age of Adaline. Directed by Lee Toland Krieger and starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman and Harrison Ford, the plot revolves around a woman who lives a solitary existance, miraculously remaining 29-years-old for almost eight decades. A chance encounter with a philanthropist (Michiel Huisman) reignites her passion for life.
