A still from the movie Gravity
New Delhi:
It's Hollywood versus Bollywood at the box office this weekend. The sci-fi film Gravity and Captain Phillips will give competition to the Bollywood film, War Chhod Na Yaar. Other Indian releases are low budget films.
Gravity, which is already creating Oscar buzz for Bullock, revolves around two astronauts in space who find themselves floating above earth after an accidental explosion completely cuts off their communication. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) plays a medical engineer on a space shuttle mission with a veteran astronaut, played by Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), in filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron's new sci-fi movie. The story of the film revolves around how Sandra Bullock and Matt Kowalsky, who are floating in space and are in a hopeless situation, make their journey back home.
Steven Price's background composition adds to the whole drama. Emmanuel Lubezki is the cinematographer of this sci-fi film. The storyline is compelling. Sandra Bullock plays an ordinary woman with a tragic past while George Clooney plays the confident and experienced guy in the film.
The other Hollywood release Captain Phillips is an action thriller directed by Paul Greengrass. The film stars Tom Hanks who plays a marine captain, Richard Phillips. The film is based on the 2009 incident when an American ship was attacked by a Somali pirate. The movie also stars Barkhad Abdi and Catherine Keener apart from Tom Hanks. The film's screenplay is by Billy Ray and is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca.
Bollywood releases this week include War Chhod Na Yaar. The film is a satire written and directed by Faraz Haider. The cast includes Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi and Jaaved Jaaferi in lead roles. Soha plays a journalist in the war comedy. The film is a funny and comical take on India-Pakistan relations and will show the funny side of India and Pakistan jawans. The director of the film has reportedly dedicated a song Jai Jawan from the film to all the Indian soldiers. The song has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh. This will be the first war comedy of the country.
Next up for release is Baat Bann Gayi. Directed by Shuja Ali, the film features Ali Fazal, Anisa and Gulshan Grover. The film is a romantic comedy and will see Gulshan Grover in a double role - a professor and a gay choreographer.
The other release is Rajendra Shivv's romantic suspence film Kyun Hua Achanak. The star cast includes Asieem Ali Khan, Hazel Crowney, Rajesh Shringarpure and Kashmira Shah. The film is about how four individuals come to Mumbai to make a living and what they go through in life.
