Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in a still from Chennai Express
New Delhi:
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's much-awaited film Chennai Express chugs into theatres this evening. The movie has already generated interest for its comic dialogues and impressive action sequences.
Chennai Express, which has been described as a family entertainer, will be released across 3500 screens in the country and 700 screens abroad, including in unconventional international markets like Peru and Israel.
This love story, directed by Rohit Shetty, revolves around 40-year-old Rahul, played by Shah Rukh Khan, who takes the Chennai Express from Mumbai to Rameshwaram, in the company of spirited Tamil belle Meena, played by Deepika Padukone. For Rahul, who has led a completely mundane existence till he meets Meena, life truly begins at 40.
Shah Rukh Khan, who has a seemingly endless supply of comic one-liners, is the funniest he's been in a long time as Bollywood's first officially middle-aged hero. But Deepika Padukone might just prove herself the real star of the film, with a hilarious performance as the feisty Meena.
Chennai Express re-unites Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika six years after their first film together, Om Shanti Om, which was Deepika's debut.
The music of the movie has been composed by duo Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravijiani. The film also brings back singer S P Balasubrahmanyam to Bollywood after almost a decade.
Director Rohit Shetty, known for films like the Golmaal series, Singham and Bol Bachchan, has an enviable box office track record with a string of blockbusters each earning over Rs 100 crores. His usual collaborator is Ajay Devgn. Today will prove if Mr Shetty can spin the same magic with Shah Rukh Khan.
