This weekend, the box office offers the Ajay Devgn-Tabu reunion Drishyam, animated feature Pixels and Jake Gyllenhaal's turn in the ring Southpaw.
Drishyam, a suspense thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat, is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name. Ajay plays Vijay Salgaonkar, a cable TV operator in a Goan location, implicated in a crime he didn't commit. He is pitted against tough cop Meera Deshmukh, played by Tabu, who has a personal stake in the matter. Shriya Saran plays his wife.
In the Chris Columbus-directed Pixels, Adam Sandler stars as the man tasked with fighting off aliens who misinterpret video feeds of classic games to be a declaration of war. The film also co-stars Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Monaghan in key roles.
In Southpaw, Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Billy Hope, a boxing champion who battles adversity to stand on his feet after losing his wife in an accident and his daughter to child protection services. The film also co-stars Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Oona Laurence and Naomie Harris.
Also up for release this week is the horror film The Vatican City, dealing with exorcism. Directed by Mark Neveldine, the film stars Michael Pena, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Dougray Scott, Djimon Hounsou and John Patrick Amedori.
