New Delhi: The first big release today is Hollywood action thriller film Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which stars Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise.
The film, which is the fifth film in the Mission: Impossible series, released in the US a week earlier and has since then has been creating quite a stir, especially due to its spectacular stunts and stunning VFX.
The Christopher McQuarrie-directed film also stars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson.
Bollywood's first big release of this week is creating equal, if not more, 'bangs' as the Tom Cruise film. First time director Karan Anshuman's Bangistan, a satire on terrorism starring Riteish Deshmukh and Pulkit Samrat as dimwit suicide bombers, also hits the screens today. The film also features actress Jacqueline Fernandez in a pivotal role.
Bangistan was initially slated to release on July 31, along with Drishyam. However, the makers pushed the film back because of the popularity of Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali.
Also up for release is Muzaffar Ali's Jaanisar, which stars designer-turned-actress Pernia Qureshi and Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi (of Creature 3D fame).
Mahesh Babu and Shruti Haasan's Srimanthudu and the Vinod Bharathan-directed Karma Cartel will represent cinema from the south.
