Movie buffs can either go for a comedy caper or an out-and-out horror film today.
New Delhi:
It is comedy versus horror at the box-office today with two versions of Chashme Baddoor and Rise Of The Zombie releasing.
The digitally restored version of director Sai Paranjpye's 1981 classic Chashme Baddoor releases today as does David Dhawan's modern retelling of the film. The original film featured Farooque Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey in the leading roles, and was a silver jubilee hit then.
Actor Farooque Shaikh feels said on the restoration of the film: "It's like restoring the part of the heritage. The future generation will get to see how it was earlier and will get a fair idea. But I am happy that at least now we have started the registration process for such films. However, it saddens me that we haven't restored many good films, which are a part of our cultural history."
Actor Rakesh Bedi, at the premiere of the digitally restored version, said: "We are not releasing the film with the intention of any competition. This is being released only because today's generation doesn't know what the film was about."
David Dhawan's version of Chashme Baddoor features Ali Zafar, Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu and Divyendu Sharma in the lead roles of three students living together and the girl all three fall for.
David Dhawan feels that his movie has the same soul as the old one. "As far the story is concerned, it has the same soul, but that film was made 30 years ago. It was a very good film of those times and I have tried that my film does justice to the old one. It is made keeping in mind the taste of today's youth," he said.
Southern siren Taapsee Pannu, who makes her Bollywood debut with the film, said that shooting for the film was like a picnic. "It was an entertainment zone. We shot in Goa and it was like a picnic, a paid holiday for us. We have worked with one of the most successful commercial directors and that's why we are in a safe zone," the 25-year-old said. Chashme Baddoor also stars Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
Horror thriller Rise Of The Zombie, touted as India's first zombie film, is also out today.
The film is co-directed by Devaki Singh and Luke Kenny. Luke Kenny will also be seen playing the lead role in the film with Shaitan actress Kirti Kulhari.
Luke plays the role of a passionate wildlife photographer who is so engrossed in his work that his real life relationships suffer, which leads him to the world of darkness. What follows is a story about transformation of a man into a zombie.
