New Delhi: The box office offerings today begin with Shaadi Ke Side Effects, the sequel to hilarious 2006 hit Pyar Ke Side Effects.
Starring Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar in the lead roles, the film tackles the subject of what happens when post-wedding excitement has died down and the honeymoon period has ended. This comic take on relationships also stars Ram Kapoor and Vir Das in supporting roles and it's catchy music has created a buzz.
From Hollywood, the Oscar -nominated Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska hit Indian screens with a vengeance. While Dallas Buyers Club tells the story of a homophobic AIDS patient who ends up smuggling medicines (played by Best Actor nominee Matthew McConaughey), Nebraska is about a road trip and journey of discovery taken by a father-son duo across the American Midwest. With the Oscars just around the corner, these films could cash in.
Nonstop, starring Liam Neeson, is the only non-Oscar entry from Hollywood. Mr Neeson, who has found himself somewhat re-invented as an action hero lately, plays an air marshal who counters a threat to his passengers' lives in the only way he knows - with a lot of action. The film is opens in India simultaneously as in the US and though reviewers haven't been too kind to Nonstop, Mr Neeson has a dedicated fan following in India who may not want to skip this film.
Shaadi Ke Side Effects is a heavy-weight that would normally speed past the Hollywood fare on offer. This is, however, Oscar weekend and cine-goers might just queue up to catch two films with American state names in their titles.
