Stills from the films The Xpose and Godzilla
New Delhi:
The nation may be gearing up for a change of guard but Indian cinema seems to have taken a short break and decided not to release any major films this weekend. However we still have two films battling it out at the box-office as they look to take advantage of the lack of competition.
On the Bollywood front, we have the onscreen return of the singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya with the murder mystery, The Xpose. The film, directed by Ananth Mahadevan, also stars rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. Irrfan Khan will also appear in a cameo. The film features two debutant heroines Sonali Raut and Zoya Afroz. The film's music has received mediocre response.
Hollywood unleashes the monster (movie) Godzilla to take on Himesh. The film which has been in the making for almost 4 years is eagerly awaited by sci-fi film lovers and Japanese movie fans alike. This is the first Hollywood production of Godzilla which is influenced by the original Japanese films. The film directed by Monsters maker Gareth Edwards stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe and Elizabeth Olsen in the lead roles. The film continues on the original films by Japan's Toho production house where Godzilla was shown as a natural monster instead of an outcome of Radioactive or other human experiments. The film will release in 2D and 3D.
Also releasing today is the animation film Mighty Raju Rio Calling which comes from the makers of popular series Chota Bheem. The film follows the adventures of Mighty Raju, a four year old child with super powers, as he travels along with his family to Rio in Brazil.
Finally, serious cinema fans will be treated to Children Of War. Directed by Mritunjay Devvrat the film features Farooq Sheikh, Raima Sen, Victor Banerjee and Indraneil Sengupta among others. The film deals with three stories which occur around the time of Bangladesh war of 1971 and as the movie progresses the stories slowly intertwine.
