Akshay Kumar's latest release Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, maintains a 'strong' stand at the box office, tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film's business on Tuesday, Independence Day, was 'massive' and a day later, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha earned Rs 6.50 crore. Mr Adarsh described Toilet: Ek Prem Katha's box office report as a 'smashing hit.' The film has so far earned Rs 89.95 crore. According to Taran Adarsh, success of films like Dangal, Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha indicates that 'well-made desi stories are being lapped up.' Box Office India predicts that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will earn over Rs 95 crore by the end of this week. The report also states that Akshay's film will 'dominate' this week's release Bareilly Ki Barfi, starring Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi's Partition 1947. "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will easily be the top film this week and will see some circuits break lifetime records for Akshay Kumar starrers by the end of the weekend," Box Office India reports.
Meanwhile, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which opened to poor reviews on Friday, got a thumbs up from Twinkle Khanna, Akshay's wife. "So even the box office needed this Toilet eventually to break free from its constipation-#ToiletEkPremKath. Hit Hit Hooray!" she tweeted a few days ago.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is Akshay Kumar's second release of the year. The film is based on the theme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and focusses on the importance of sanitation in rural parts of India.
