Tom Hanks To Star In Pirate Hostage Drama
Los Angeles: Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks is all set to play Captain Richard Phillips in a Somali
pirate hostage drama, inspired by true incidents. The movie is based on the international incident of an American ship captured by Somali pirates.

The project, with a script by Billy Ray, is being produced by Scott Rudin, Michael DeLuca, Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, the team behind Facebook movie The Social Network, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Columbia picked up the life rights to Phillips, as well as his book A Captain's Duty, in spring 2009.

The movie will retell the story of the captain, played by the 54-year-old actor, and the trading vessel Maersk Alabama. Phillips had surrendered himself to Somali pirates after his ship was hijacked to save his crew.

The standoff, which commanded worldwide attention, tested the strength of Phillips and his crew as well as the resolve of the Navy commanders and President Barack Obama to
bring Phillips home alive.

Two time Academy award winner Hanks is currently shooting Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the movie adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's 2005 novel.
