New Delhi:
50 is a milestone birthday so nobody should be surprised that festivities for Akshay Kumar's big day are continuing well beyond the actual date, September 9. Akshay and family were in the Swiss Alps on his birthday and so, his friends and colleagues back home have extended the celebrations to a week later. The best birthday gift Akshay Kumar received came from, no points for guessing, wife Twinkle Khanna who gave him customised portraits featuring 15-year-old son Aarav and 4-year-old daughter Nitara. "She presented me two paintings she had commissioned - one, a portrait of me with my daughter and the other with my son. This is what I cherish the most," the newly-50-year-old actor told mid-day.
A week after his birthday, as mid-day reports, Akshay Kumar's van on the sets of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, which he is judging, is festooned with balloon and stacked with gifts. "It's not that I am telling everyone 'It's my birthday, let's celebrate.' The channel and production folk have put up all this. This was their way of wishing me a belated birthday," Akshay told mid-day.
Akshay Kumar, the last of the big Bollywood Ks to turn 50, was deluged with birthday wishes last week. Here's what Twinkle Khanna posted:
It's a month of birthdays for the family - today is Aarav's special day and Akshay wished his 'favouritest human being' in a tweet:
All told, it's been a great year for the actor. Other than turning 50, Akshay Kumar has the success of his most recent film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha to celebrate. He won the National Award for Best Actor, starred in Jolly LLB 2 and appeared in Naam Shabana. Akshay, one of the busiest actors around, has several other films in the works, including Padman, produced by Twinkle.
The Great India Laughter Challenge marks Akshay Kumar's return to television three years after having appeared on shows like Dare 2 Dance, Khatron Ke Khiladi and MasterChef India.
