New Delhi:
Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who recently walked out of work-in-progress Malayalam film Aakasha Mittayee, said that she didn't get along with the film's producers, reports news agency IANS. Varalaxmi told reporters on the sidelines of IIFA Utsavam that the way things were handled on the film sets was "crass." She told IANS: "I don't want to comment on the issue. I just didn't get along with the producers. The way they were handling things was very crass." Aakasha Mittayee, directed by Samuthirakani, is the remake of last year's Tamil sleeper hit Appa. Earlier, Varalaxmi tweeted she's walking out of the film saying she "Can't work with male chauvinists and mannerless producers."
Here's what Varalaxmi Sarathkumar tweeted:
Earlier this month Varalaxmi Sarathkumar had started 'Save Shakti' campaign to support and help women in the film industry who've been harassed at work. She launched the campaign after she had a disturbing encounter with a head of a television channel, about which she talked about in February. She narrated the incident in which the TV channel boss asked her when could they "meet outside" for "other things." She wrote: "Towards the end of the half-hour meeting, he asked me, 'So...when can we meet outside?' To which I replied, 'Regarding some other work?' His reply was (said with a smug smile like it was the norm) 'No no! Not work... for other things.' I hid my shock and anger and told him, 'Sorry! Please leave'."
