Varun Dhawan on Dilwale Clash: Best of Luck to Bajirao Mastani

Mumbai: He may have five straight hits under his belt but Varun Dhawan had to wait longer than the other Students of his batch to cross the 100-crore mark with ABCD 2. Sidharth Malhotra joined the coveted franchise with Ek Villain while 2 States saw Alia Bhatt enjoy a 100-crore film. In an interview to NDTV Varun claimed that while he was happy, it wasn't really playing on his mind.

"It's something which I try not to think about. Though it has happened now, it's not like it has been ticked off my bucket list. Obviously it does feel amazing, it does feel great but that is not the criteria to make a film. The number one criterion to make a film is that you are providing quality entertainment," said Varun.

It may not have played on his mind but ABCD 2's 100-crore bash was attended by industry friends and Salman Khan himself.

"Shraddha and I were planning it for a long time. A lot of our common friends asked us to do something. But I didn't want to do a party when it touches 100 crores because that will be damn cliched. So I waited till it went a little bit above 100 crores and then we did it," said Varun.

ABCD 2 is a hit but Varun isn't done yet. Dilwale, where he stars with King Khan himself, is looking to release a week before Christmas - same day as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. A clash of the titans will only affect box office earnings.

"Honestly, Rohit Shetty and Shah Rukh sir will be better at answering this question. What I can say is that we are definitely coming on December 18. And if they are coming too, then best of luck to them (Bajirao Mastani). I think Mr Bhansali is an amazing director. He has made some wonderful films. The actors involved are amazing as well. Eventually, there is so much more for the audience to watch I mean. Go watch both the films," he concluded.
