New Delhi: Actors Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra are all set to graduate from being Students to Ram Lakhan.

The grapevine has it that the Student Of The Year co-stars are filmmaker Rohit Shetty's top choice for the remake of Subhash Ghai's 1989 film, which featured actors Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor in titular roles. Sidharth will play Jackie Shroff's character Ram, while Varun will be seen dancing a la Anil Kapoor style in the film.

The film will be co-produced by Sidharth and Varun's mentor, filmmaker Karan Johar, who had announced the project on microblogging site Twitter, last year:

And while Sidharth and Varun's fans may have a reason to smile as the duo recreate the magic of 90s, Mr Kapoor, in an interview to PTI had said that the remake is "more of a business proposition than a creative one".

"But I think Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar will do their best," he added.

Though reportedly Mr Kapoor wanted his Dil Dhadakne Do co-star Ranveer Singh to play the role of Lakhan in the film, at the event he said, "I don't know. I think it depends on filmmakers. There are certain filmmakers who are casting actors more for the excitement of first look than getting the perfect cast for a bigger picture."

Meanwhile, Rohit is currently directing Varun in his upcoming film Dilwale, which also features Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Kriti Sanon and Vinod Khanna. Sidharth is also gearing up for the release of Brother, which has been produced by KJo's Dharma Production. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez.
