Sanjay Dutt, who is all set torevive the quintessential villain of Hindi cinema with hismenacing look as Kancha in Agneepath, says villains arealways portrayed as powerful in Hollywood films.
Dutt's role in the remake of Agneepath, which wasplayed by a suave Danny Denzongpa in the original revengedrama of the same name, has been completely revamped with the52-year-old actor sporting bald and threatening look.
Directed by Karan Johar's former assistant, KaranMalhotra, Agneepath is the remake of the 1990 superhit film,immortalised of sort by Amitabh Bachchan with his baritonedelivery of raw dialogues and punch lines with the characterof Vijay Dinanath Chauhan at the helm.
Villains in Hollywood are always scary and powerful,unlike in Hind movies where the bad guys are often thrashedmercilessly by the hero, he said.
"If you see superhero films like Spiderman,Batman, Ironman or any Hollywood film, there the characterof villain is very kaufnak (scary) and too powerful."
"In Hollywood movies, the villain takes up the case ofhero...till the end when something happens. It is nice thatKaran Johar and Karan Malhotra thought that villain is larger-than-life and no one can stand up against him," Dutt said inan interview.
In the remake version, Kancha, with his wicked smile,bulky physique and puffed-up eyes, is in total contrast to thehero, Hrithik Roshan, who plays Vijay Dinanath Chauhan andlooks a simple man.
So will Kancha overshadow the hero? "To say thatKancha will overshadow Vijay or vice-versa is childish. But Ican say one thing for sure - aisa villain kabhi aaya nahi haiIndian screen pe (such a villain has not appeared till date)."
Talking about his character, Dutt said, "Kancha is anunpredictable character. He believes in Bhagwad Gita, whichhe has interpreted in his own way. He is a complex characterand to understand him is very difficult."
"Kancha would have been a challenging character forany actor. It is a difficult decision for any actor whether ornot to do such a role as it is a very dark character. There isno justification for Kancha to be a villain."
The character was conceived entirely by the director,the Khal Nayak star said.
"No, I did not decide anything; Karan Malhotra dideverything. This was Karan Malhotra's sketches of thecharacter, and when he brought the sketches he was sure Kanchawill be bald. We agreed for prosthetics but that did not workso I had to shave my head," Dutt said.
