TV presenter Ayushman Khurana,who plays the role of a sperm donor in his debut Bollywoodfilm Vicky Donor, is happy to begin his career with anunconventional project.
Khurana, 27, acted in theatres for five years and says hewas waiting for the right opportunity for the past four years.
"I always wanted to be an actor. After I won Roadies, Igot many offers of second lead or lead in many films. Butthose scripts didn't excite me. I waited for four years. ThenShoojit Sircar approached me and I thought this is the onewhich I was waiting for," Khurana said.
After winning Roadies, he shifted to radio and videojockeying and thereafter he took off as a commercial televisionanchor with multiple-talent based reality shows like India'sGot Talent, Music Ka Maha Muqqabla, and Just Dance.
Ayushman says his focus right now is to concentrateon his acting and select films which are performance-oriented.
"I have entered in a very safe zone by starting my careerwith such a strong film. I am not a star kid and don't have agodfather in the industry. The film which I should be doingshould be unconventional. Since, subject in the film is theking, it will support me to evolve as an actor," he said.
Vicky Donor, which will hit screens on April 10, is acomic take on the serious issue of sperm donation andinfertility.
"It's a youth based film and our target audience areyouth. So, it was necessary for us to spread the message in aquirky way and at the same time maintain its essence. It'ssimilar to street plays. We have only tried to enlightenpeople about this issue," Ayushman Said.
Actor John Abraham, who is also making his debut as aproducer with the film, was always present on the sets andguided him in his best possible way.
"John is not only a good actor but a good human beingtoo. He treated me as his younger brother. He guided me in allmy shots. He always used to make me understand the conceptbehind each shots. He used to make us comfortable on sets ,"Ayushman says.
He will be seen sharing the screen space with new actressYami Gautam, who made her debut on television with Chand KePaar Chalo.
"I feel Yami is a better actor than me. She didtelevision and she knows the various intricacies of shootingin front of the camera. I don't understand much about it. Ifeel I need to brush up my body language and skills to have abetter future in the industry."
Ayushman, who is in talks with Sircar for his nextuntitled project, says he is not in the rat race to grab anyfilm offers that comes on his way.
"As I waited for four years for Vicky Donor. I will dovery selective film. VJs don't have a small shelf life, so, Iam not apprehensive if I don't get any other films."
