In English Vinglish, Sridevi plays the role of a housewife who joins an English speaking course to regain her confidence after being teased by her husband and family

After playing the protagonist inher comeback film English Vinglish, actress Sridevi islooking for meaty roles and is not keen on just doing elderlyroles which do not appeal her.
In English Vinglish, Sridevi played the role of ahousewife who joins an English speaking course to regain herconfidence after being teased by her husband and family. Thefilm, riding on her shoulders, did quite well at the boxoffice.
"I want to be in the film that I would be proud of andnot just for the sake of being there in it. I want to do filmsthat appeal to me," Sridevi told PTI.
Asked if she is open to playing an aunt or a mother,the actress said, "If I really wanted to do that I would havedone it long back, then why would I wait?"Having made a comeback on the silver screen after 15years, the actress insists that she won't take long time to doanother film.
"Definitely it won't be that long to do anotherBollywood film. People are approaching and they want tonarrate stories to me. I hope something very interesting comesmy way," Sridevi said.
Her husband Boney Kapoor being a producer, Sridevi isopen to working in his films. "Definitely he will make filmsfor me and I would like to work in them, it goes withoutsaying," she said.
Being a good dancer, would she be open to doing itemor special songs and surprise the audience, the veteranactress said, "I wouldn't give my fans such a big surprise bydoing an item number (laughs). I don't know why people callsome songs 'item numbers'. I would call them special songs andwould be open to doing special songs."
Sridevi does not believe in calling English Vinglishher comeback."I don't understand why there is so much stress on theword 'comeback'. We don't consider our films as a comebackbecause we never went anywhere. We were not a part of any filmbut were very much a part of the industry. The audience wouldsee us making lot of public appearances," she said.
"Usually actors take a break to work on the physicalarea, body building and all for a project. But that is not thecase with actresses," she said.Her films were always associated with commercialelements like song and dance but she chose a different kind offilm to return to Bollywood.
"I loved the simplicity and sensitivity of thecharacter that I played. So never did it cross my mind that Iwas doing something different. I don't think I need to provemyself again as I believe in my fans and I knew they wouldlike my film," Sridevi added.
