Watch out for mixed bag of movies this week
Mumbai: Last week audiences were served with young romantic drama Cocktail, this Friday comedies Challo Driver and I M 24 and children's films Gattu and Jalpari will hit the screens.

After gaining recognition at film festivals, Gattu, produced by the Children's Film Society, is ready for a commercial release.

Directed by Rajan Khosla, the story revolves around Gattu (Mohammad Samad) who dreams to defeat a kite named 'Kali' with mysterious origins. After several futile attempts, he finds a way to fulfil his dream.

He discovers a local school having a roof. Impersonating as a student, he sneaks into the school and pretends to study. The only problem is that he can't read and write!

The film opened at the 17th International Children's Film Festival, Hyderabad. It was held in high regard by critics and reviewers all over the world.

At the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, Gattu was honoured with a special mention.

After the success of I Am Kalam, director Nila Madhab Panda's Jalpari is another children's film that releases this week.

The film is largely based on the issue of female foeticide, but has been treated as an adventure thriller and journey film.

Produced by Sushil Kumar Agrawal of Ultra Distributors Pvt. Ltd., it features child actors Lehar Khan and Krishang Trivedi as protagonists along with I Am Kalam star Harsh Mayar.

Parvin Dabas, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rahul Singh, Suhasini Mulay and V.M. Badola are also part of the cast.

With children's films hogging the limelight, Challo Driver and I M 24 are also vying for attention at the box office.

Actor-director Saurabh Shukla's I M 24 has Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Saurabh Shukla.

The story is about Shubendu (Rajat), a 42-year-old honest, balding writer who is tempted to lie when he falls in love with a 22-year-old girl. His roommate Gagan (Ranvir) helps him cook stories.

What follows is a hilarious ride of lies, cover-ups, goof-ups and contradicting tales. Shubendu begins enjoying it. But at some point, the madness has got to stop. The question is, when?

The other film is Challo Driver with actors Vickrant Mahajan and Kainaz Motivala in lead roles.

Set in Delhi, it revolves around a fiery young construction magnate Arjun Kapoor (Vickrant) and an arts graduate from Chandigarh, Tanya Malhotra (Kainaz), who is looking for excitement in her career and hence becomes Arjun's chauffeur.

Directed by Vickrant himself, the film also features veteran actor Prem Chopra and popular television actor Manoj Pahwa.
