In 2017, Sonu Nigam posted on X (then Twitter) about the "forced religiousness" that mosques impose with their Azaan, connected to a loudspeaker. He ranted about the whole situation on his social media. He then deleted his X account after online backlash.

Back in 2020, while the nepotism debate in Bollywood was at its peak after actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, Sonu Nigam released a video talking about a similar discrimination faced by singers. He called Bhushan Kumar 'Music Mafia,' following which, Bhushan Kumar's wife Divya Khosla Kumar slammed him with a video on her social media.
