New Delhi:

Who doesn't love a good movie? However, some movies just do not age well while others last the test of time. And, this is when remakes step in. From classic films to box-office disasters, filmmakers over the years have been fascinated by remaking films and adapting a tried-and-tested story for a newer audience. While some fail to impress cinema lovers, many manage to outdo the vision of the original. At the very least most remakes start a debate from new vs old. One such film that is at the center of the remake debate is The Little Mermaid. The live-action remake of the Disney animated classic features Halle Bailey in the titular role.

If the chatter around the new The Little Mermaid and the old Disney favourite has made you curious about the other remakes in Hollywood, we are here to help. We have curated a list of five films – all remakes – that you can binge-watch over the weekend.

  1. The Mummy - Prime Video

If the first names that come to mind when we say The Mummy are Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, we don't blame you. In addition to the sizzling chemistry between the lead couple, the film was an adventure on celluloid. However, this 1999 film is in fact a remake of a 1932 version of the same name. The original supernatural film was directed by Karl Freund.

  1. A Star is Born - Prime Video

This one has to be a no-brainer. Starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper – who is also the film's director – A Star is Born is a tale of love and loss, woven together with beautiful music. The Oscar-winning film is a remake of a 1937 film of the same that was also remade two other times, in 1954 and 1976. The film Aashiqui 2 is also a remake of the same source material.

  1. Ocean's 11 - Netflix

If you thought the 2001 film with a host of superstars including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon was the beginning of the stylish heist drama franchise, you are wrong. Ocean's 11 is very much a remake – of the 1960 film of the same name. The original too boasts of a star-studded cast including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and Dean Martin.

  1. Scarface - Prime Video

One of Al Pacino's most prolific films, Scarface is a remake too. The 1983 film is a remake of a 1932 film, which in turn is based on a 1929 novel of the same name. However, in an example of a remake that was unafraid to push the envelope and make changes, Scarface starring Al Pacino follows the story of a refugee who arrives in Miami from Cuba, while the original is set in Chicago.

  1. You've Got Mail - Prime Video

If you're a fan of heart-warming romantic comedies, chances are you've heard of You've Got Mail starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. The film is a remake of the 1940 classic The Shop Around the Corner. While the original is set against the enchanting backdrop of Budapest, the remake is set in the Upper West Side neighbourhood of Manhattan.

Tell us your pick from the list.
