Shefali Shah is one of the most prolific actors in the country today, earning constant praise for her work in films and OTT projects. The star is also known for her candid takes on her professional and personal life on social media. A case in point is Shefali Shah's latest Instagram post, in which she is being her usual witty self as she narrates an anecdote involving her husband filmmaker Vipul Shah and her two sons. In a detailed note, Shefali Shah has narrated how her sons and husband insisted that she invest in some branded clothes; after all, she is one of the most sought-after actresses in the country. In her note, Shefali Shah explains, “My family of 4 decided to go shopping. My sons, extremely style conscious and fashion savvy, my husband trusting their choice of clothes and shoes, and me a hobo they've decided to revamp. I like shopping but my style is comfortable, easy and something I don't have to sell a kidney for. But they have decided it's time I start wearing stuff that's recognised(read labels). I don't have anything against brands, I understand getting skincare, walking shoes, slip-ons that I would use everyday (but not stuff I'd use once in a year.) And what is the point of buying a LV bag if there's no money left to keep inside it? You can't even live in it or drive it."
In a series of text slides, Shefali Shah goes on to explain how she was pretty much dumbfounded by all the brand names and fashion jargon coming her way, courtesy of her sons. She adds, “After much pakaoing they say the most logical and coherent thing I've heard from them through this conversation. 'Get slides at least. You live in them.' Now that's true, I wear them every day, everywhere, anywhere. Now that's paisa vasool. So, I happily get chappals.”
Next, they began to pick out jackets and trench coats for her, Shefali Shah shared. At this, she wonders, “Have they forgotten I live in India. Where am I even going to wear them? Husband suggests 'to meetings'. I remind him I'm not in Suits and if I go to a meeting dressed in the above people will probably think I'm crazy. Not to miss, I'll be a slimeball melting inside.”
“And then my sons add 'You are an actor, you are seen and recognised, you should wear brands.' This is one of the conversations I'd replay in my head years later and wish I had given a sharp retort. And thank God my wit doesn't fail me this time, and I have a perfect comeback at this perfect time. (not because I believe it but just cuz I want to shut them up. And because all of you lovely people, my audience makes me feel so),” Shefali Shah wrote, before sharing her response to them, “I look up at them (not cause they're taller but cause there's a defiance when I raise my chin) and say....' I AM THE BRAND'."
Well, we told you it was a mic-drop moment.
In response, chef Marina Balakrishnan, spoke for all of us when she said, “And a fabulous brand.”
