New Delhi:
Actress Bidita Bag, who will be seen opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, has supported his recent tweet on racism. Speaking to news agency PTI, the 25-year-old actress said that said that 'the only skin an artiste needs is camouflage' and that Nawazuddin has taught her to be a 'chameleon.' "I feel, the only skin we need, as artistes, is camouflage. Those who are colour-blind will never see what abilities he (Nawaz) has as an actor and a person. Nawazuddin has never been the one to play it (a character) black or white. He has even taught me to be a chameleon and get into the skin of the character, as per director's vision," PTI quoted Bidita Bag as saying.
"It is good that I'm not paired opposite fair and handsome people. I'm paired opposite someone who has fair and lovely thinking and I value that. It's my honour and privilege that I got to watch him perform," she added.
Bidita Bag also told PTI that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is 'one of the best actors' she has worked with.
"He is one of the best actors that I have ever worked with. I will always cherish his ability to get into the skin of the character and become that person for the entire duration of the shoot." PTI quoted Bidita as saying.
Earlier this month, Nawazuddin Siddiqui posted a tweet on racism in Bollywood after his casting director Sanjay Chauhan, in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, stated that 'fair and handsome' people can't be cast along with the actor.
"Thank you for making me realise that I cannot be paired with the fair and handsome because I am dark and not good looking, but I never focus on that," tweeted the 43-year-old actor.
Later, Sanjay Chauhan clarified his comment. In an interview with PTI, Mr Chauhan said that he 'was completely misquoted.'
"I was completely misquoted. All I said was the film needed actors as good as Nawazuddin. You need actors who could match his stature. I don't know from where the 'fair and handsome' bit came but I never said the words," PTI quoted Mr Chauhan as saying.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag's Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is scheduled to release in theatres on August 25.
