Why Kajol And Ajay Devgn Chose To Keep Their Kids Out Of The Spotlight

New Delhi: Actress Kajol has revealed that she and husband Ajay Devgn have taken pains to shield their two children from the public gaze. Kajol, mother of 14-year-old Nysa and six-year-old Yug, told news agency PTI, "Ajay and I consciously chose to keep kids away from media. Keeping them away from the spotlight at large is an attempt to give the children their space where they are not bogged down by any kind of pressure." Kajol, who just completed 25 years as an actress, married Ajay Devgn, her co-star from films like Ishq and Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, in 1999.

Earlier this week, Kajol spoke to mid-day about the media's focus on star kids, describing the paparazzi as 'bullies' who harass 'impressionable teenagers.' She denounced a recent episode in which Shah Rukh Khan's 17-year-old daughter Suhana was hounded by cameras while out with friends. "If something like this were to happen with Nysa or Yug, I'd be infuriated," Kajol told mid-day, adding, "We signed up for this, they didnt."

Speaking to PTI, Kajol also said that she doesn't want her children to feel pressured when picking a career. "We feel we want to keep them away from the pressure, from the unnecessary burden which will come on them. I don't want that to happen. They shouldn't be under pressure by the media, public or even unknowingly by me, to become something. It should be their choice what they want to become, I will give them the platform to have that choice, but the choice has to be theirs with a free and clear mind," the 42-year-old actress told PTI.

Actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Sridevi are spotted all the time with their kids. Kajol is less frequently photographed with Nysa and Yug - sometimes posting pictures from holidays and festive occasions - and says that they have learnt to separate their parents from the fame. "Yug knows his father is an action star and he has done so many films. But at the end of the day, we have to explain to them that this is work, this is an outer personality which people look at us from the outside. We are your parents first and after that everything else," Kajol told PTI.

Kajol, star of films such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, is currently prepping for Tamil release VIP 2, co-starring Dhanush and directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. Ajay Devgn's next film is Baadshaho.
