Come March 27, Madame Tussauds gets a new guest - Katrina Kaif. The actress joins fellow members from her filmy fraternity which include actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan as well as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.
And it was via public vote that Katrina was the official choice made by the wax museum. Sources reveal that the actress beat her contemporaries by a huge margin. Apparently, those contemporaries are very big on social media. Well, can you make a wild guess?
The wax version of Katrina will be seen in a dance pose and the actress, who has spent most of her growing years in London, has every reason to be on top of the world.
In an interview to The Times of India , the actress said, "Madame Tussauds is a very integral part of London's 'go-to-see' places. So I don't think one can imagine it also. But when I heard that they had statues of Amitji, Salman, Aishwarya, Madhuri and Kareena, somewhere at the back of your mind you are thinking, wow that would be nice. There are a few things from time to time you don't mind and having a statue there is one such. Also, three of my sisters live in London. They have kids there, so it's very special for them. The minute it was announced, I got a message on WhatsApp with all of them saying they are all coming. So they will be there in full attendance. When it was announced, I came home and high-fived my friends."
The Hong Kong-born actress, who is a British citizen, has had a commendable decade in Bollywood and to achieve what Katrina has, does involve destiny but also a lot of dedication. The actress, who started working the moment she stepped into her teens, has been extremely guarded about her personal life and humble beginnings.
Modelling assignments that took her from London to Dubai and finally Mumbai, saw her go through her own share of struggles. Born Katrina Turquotte, the actress was given the surname Kaif by her Boom director Kaizad Gustad so as to make her more "Indian" in her appeal.
Though Boom didn't exactly boom at the box office, Katrina had a brief stint in the Southern film industry followed by Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya opposite Salman Khan, with whom she was reportedly in a relationship back then.
But it was with Namaste London that Katrina fanned the flames of fame and it seemed there was no looking back for the actress after that. While she was seen in multi starrers like Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Apne, Welcome and Partner, the tide truly turned in her favour in 2008 - The thriller Race was followed by Singh is King.
The actress, often mocked for her inability to speak Hindi, learnt the language and began dubbing for her own films. It was in Kabir Khan's New York that Katrina gave us a taste of her acting chops.
Paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, little did the actress realise that a new chapter was beginning in her own life story. As the Bollywood grapevine buzzed about a blossoming romance, Katrina and Ranbir both remained mum since they were publicly still involved with their respective partners, Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Katrina managed to pull off Prakash Jha's Rajneeti with elan and the roster of hits continued from Mere Brother Ki Dulhan to Jab Tak Hai Jaan to Dhoom: 3, though there may have been misses like Tees Maar Khan thrown in between.
Secure in their relationship, Katrina and Ranbir were spotted together in 2013, and despite the "disastrous" BikiniGate pictures which revealed the truth about their rumoured relationship, the two never openly spoke about each other.
After being spotted among the Kapoors and moving in together, Katrina and Ranbir now seem to be open about their relationship with the actress apparently brushing a three-film deal away to focus on her personal life. It seems Katrina has every reason to wax eloquent.
