Mumbai: Actor Randeep Hooda said that he has never aspired to play the role of a quintessential hero in his films.

Randeep will soon be seen in Prawaal Raman's Main Aur Charles in which he plays the role of serial killer Charles Sobhraj.

"For every role that I play, whether it is in Highway, Rang Rasiya or Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, my thrill is to experience something new and discover something new about myself," Randeep told PTI.

"To play 'Raj' in every movie has never been my ambition and it will never be. I try not to repeat myself even though people say that I have done a lot of cop roles. Is every journalist the same? Then how can every cop be the same," added Randeep.

Moreover, Randeep's perception about Charles Sobhraj changed tremendously while filming Main Aur Charles.

"As I got to know a lot more about him, my perception did change. We cannot play a character without empathising with the person. Without being present over there, I used to think why he did it and to what extent. There is nothing called doing intense parts in films. It's called getting involved. I get involved with every film which I do," said Randeep.

Randeep and Prawaal also did a lot of research before making the film.

"My motivation for any role has always been the personal aspects of every character. Never the job. Similarly, in this way we saw some documentary footage of his. We met a lot of people. Prawaal did most of the research before we started," said Randeep.

"All the people whom he met had different stories to tell about him. We went for articles and documentaries which were made on him. This was fulfilling for us and more helpful for us than people whom we met because they all spoke about a different person every time, which was very shocking," added Randeep.

"Real characters do not give you the freedom that fictional characters do. I feel both are equally difficult," he added.

Main Aur Charles also features Richa Chadha, Lucky Morani and Adil Hussain, and is scheduled to release on October 30.(Also Read: How Debutante Lucky Morani Was Cast in Main Aur Charles)
